We're pleased to annouce three new board members, effective July 1st, 2008:

  • Nancy Benedict, Vice President for Enrollment Beloit College (WI)
  • Martha Merrill, Dean of Admission & Financial Aid Connecticut College
  • Homer Turner, Guidance Counselor Newton South High School (MA)

We are pleased to announce the admission of 13 more institutions to the membership since our original announcement this past January. In total, we'll have 35 new members next year, a record number. Ten of the 35 are public institutions, also a record. Of our 348 members, 27 are public institutions and 45 states are represented. Our new members are:

01/09/2008 Record Application Numbers Announced
The 72-hour period from December 30th through Jan 1st is always the high-water mark for online submissions. In this, the tenth year of the Common App Online, but the first year of our new online system, we set another new volume record. We are pleased to report that we processes over 75,000 applications and over 65,000 supplements on December 31st alone -- an enormous increase over last year. That said, students submitted slightly under 4 applications on average, a number which is almost unchanged from last year. In other words, students are not applying to more colleges, but more students are using the Common App Online. Our submission statistics are as follows through January 1:

  • 1,110,392 - submitted since Jul 1
  • 171,490 - submitted Dec 30-Jan 1
  • 38% - overall increase comparing Dec 31, 2006 to Dec 31, 2007
Supplements
  • 781,952 submitted since Jul 1
  • 145,147 submitted Dec 30-Jan 1
  • 78% - overall increase comparing Dec 31, 2006 to Dec 31, 2007
Payments
  • 623,465 submitted since Jul 1
  • 110,083 submitted Dec 30-Jan 1
  • 52% - overall increase comparing Dec 31, 2006 to Dec 31, 2007
School Forms
  • 66,127 submitted since Jul 1
  • 3,729 submitted Dec 30-Jan 1
  • 5,000 were submitted OVERALL last year, so the increase is enormous
 
07/01/2007 New Common App Launches July 1
The new Common App Online system launched July 1, with a new design, new college search engine, and many other new features including the ability to upload fully formatted essays. An overview of the new system can be reviewed here: CAO Preview
